Beesies are figurines that were distributed by the supermarket chain Albert Heijn during the 2010 World Cup. They are a sequel to the Wuppies from 2006 and the Welpies from 2008.
A Beesie is orange, dark blue, red or white. Exactly in the colours of the Dutch flag and the orange pennant. Around the time of the 2010 World Cup, customers at Albert Heijn received a Beesie for every 10 euros. Their larger versions are Big Beesies. This was a hand puppet, but also a scarf. Big Beesies were for sale for about 2 euros. In a commercial for Albert Heijn, two Big Beesies were seen with Harry Piekema singing the song Schouder aan Schouder by Guus Meeuwis and Marco Borsato. The name Beesie comes from an animal that lives in South Africa. The people of South Africa call these animals Beesies.
